Jowin’s Hyaline EP gets the remix treatment along with a few other surprise collaborations with Jonathan Lowell, Plue Starfox, & Detroit’s Doc Illingsworth. This should hold you guys down until Jowin’s next project, which will definitely be amazing, trust me.
N.O.M.A.D. is a Fort Worth, TX-based producer signed to Anime4Breakfast’s KC.93 Records. Best way to describe his sound is electronic jazz with an emphasis on percussion. Emphasis because a wide array of percussion instruments are utilized in these beats on this Nomadic Theory EP. Give it a listen for a real spaced out aural experience. Use these beats for your “raps” and die. MDNK.
Producer/singer duo AFTA-1 & Nikko Gray of the Pronounced Love movement finally release their self titled EP. While short yet effective, you can’t help but want a full length project after hearing this. Next level soul/funk/R&B right here.
After a series of mixtapes & guest appearances, Future Sound finally releases his debut EP, The Thrills. As a long time colleague I’ve seen my friend Future’s sound & flow evolve through many stages. Embodying his Washington DC roots in his very bold & cold demeanor, a move to the warmer lands of Orlando, FL added a new element to his style: Smooth. This new attitude allows him to experiment with flow patterns & various soundscapes. These experiences are all encompassed within The Thrills. The intro & outro tracks of a project are usually a minute or 2, but FS gives you a combined 14 minutes of PROLOGUE & EPILOGUE in “The Thrills” & “Hey Dreamer”, respectively. In between are 3 tracks containing the same ethereal atmosphere provided by SDC, Trey Hemingway & AbJo. Though the beats give the listener a very out-of-world experience, FS manages to paint his reality with honest sincerity. This EP serves as a precursor to Future’s upcoming full length album, Bomb Lennon. & the quiet storm rages on….
& now for a brighter side of love courtesy of our favorite songstress Nikko Gray. This is a neo soul infused atmospheric journey through sounds provided by Imani Waddy. Chris Young even drops by for an appearance on the last track. Enjoy the rest of your Valentine’s eve.
Nice, both DMV & LA B2P artists are dropping Valentine’s Day projects this year. Repping the DMV is the homie Lega-c’s collab EP with producer JMistro, Pulling On Her Heartstrings. We featured this EP’s single, “Southern California” earlier this year on The Runners File Vol. 1, so its great to finally hear the whole project. JMistro got some really smooth yet funky beats that complement Lega’s boisterous vocals. Music: life’s Valentine.
A. Biggs of USM (United States of Mind) from Detroit sent this LP and music video directed by him and Joe Petrous. Beat gives me that chill old school feel.. “Hip Hop is stregnth, and therefore i am Hip Hop” stood out to me.
On saturday, January 29th 2011 CRASHprez celebrated his birthday, as well as the release of his first EP of all original music (8 tracks, 24 minutes). 5 of these tracks are produced by Crash himself. Additional production and artwork by rMell, as well as a feature from Sir E.U. Crash says that this EP embodies the past year of his life and serves as an introduction of his work to the masses.
“You’re A Rapper Too” has collected 250 downloads, and the EP has collected about 180 downloads within the first week. Show the Kool Klux family some love.
Nashville’s Mac L links up with New York producer M. Will the Shogun for a 5 track EP. Originally scheduled to drop last Thanksgiving, we’re glad that this project finally gets to see some light. As far as beats go, M. Will provides a very smooth soundscape that makes all the lyricism easier to digest. People who have been following Mac since he was Mac tha Knife will notice a profound evolution in his content & understanding. The content of this tape is completely introspective, speaking on self-pitfalls, societal ills & empowerment. Escape your escapism for a bit & give this EP a listen.
