Jonathan Lowell – SheepScapes

So the kid Jonathan Lowell had one hell of a year since we dropped Lightning. Production inquiries from all over the map & a healthy buzz was built by this upcoming producer in a very short amount of time. Unfortunately, Lowell will be putting the music on hold for a while, for education purposes. Before he took off, he left us yet another mixtape of various beats he made in the past year til now. Jonathan Lowell & Chuuwee’s mixtape Be Cool should be out very soon so keep a look out for that as well. And of course, expect a stronger Jonathan Lowell when he returns.

N.O.M.A.D. – Nomadic Theory EP

N.O.M.A.D. is a Fort Worth, TX-based producer signed to Anime4Breakfast’s KC.93 Records. Best way to describe his sound is electronic jazz with an emphasis on percussion. Emphasis because a wide array of percussion instruments are utilized in these beats on this Nomadic Theory EP. Give it a listen for a real spaced out aural experience. Use these beats for your “raps” and die. MDNK.

THROWBACK: Tyra From Saigon – Isolated

I remember the homie Digga put me on to this lady Tyra From Saigon’s music back in 2007. Her album Isolated was pretty much the soundtrack of my life that year. Combining her production with her turntablism skills made for a potent mix. She is currently DJing all over North America & her signature “Delayed Flare” scratch technique continues to be taught at the legendary DJ Q-Bert’s Scratch University. Definitely one of the illest DJ’s (regardless of gender) out.

Here are a couple of her standout tracks (download them all at TyraFromSaigon.com):

Quetzal (as Al Quetz) – Drums Come From Africa (snippets)

I have no idea how the word gets spread about our blog (I don’t openly promote it like a paid site) but we recently received this pleasant audio surprise from France-based indie digital label StillMuzik. Not much info was given on their artist Quetzal, but I was extremely compelled to post this after hearing the snippets of his upcoming album Drums Come From Africa. According to a brief summary of the project, Quetz has been doing work since 2006 and this will be his second release. Based off the snippets alone, these are some of the best instrumentals I’ve heard in a while. DCFA drops on the 8th on vinyl & digital.

Canadian hip hop battle league King Of The Dot recently hosted a producer tournament where producers face off in 1 round elimination matches. The homie Elaquent participated in this tournament & started off with a very heated match against Absoluut. We’ll keep you updated if EQ advances through the rounds. By the way, Elaquent’s The Midnight After coming soon.

KILL this beat & Jonathan Lowell will produce an ENTIRE EP for you!

1 verse could change your life forever.
Ok, maybe it won’t but what it can do is get you a whole EP produced by Jonathan Lowell.

RULES:

  1. This beat can be used by anyone (since it’s free) but artists who already have projects in the works with Lowell (ie: me, Chuuwee, Kaine Karrera, etc.)  will be exempt from this contest.
  2. If you are not an artist with said condition, go ahead and download the beat and completely destroy it. No holds barred…use whatever type of concept, technique, etc.
  3. Do not alter the beat in any way, shape, or form. (ie: adding extra loops, drum programming, etc.)
  4. If there is somehow more than one artist on the track and if their submission wins the contest, they will be allowed to do one EP with Lowell as a group.
  5. Send all submissions to JonathanLowellMusic@gmail.com. Submissions sent anywhere else will NOT count.
  6. The winning submission will be determined by a mystery panel of judges.
  7. SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY MONDAY 1/24/2011!!!!!

If you don’t win, go ahead and send your submission over to backtopluto@gmail.com & we’ll feature all the submissions in one post as a consolation prize. & you thought bloggers were assholes.

Be sure you read the rules carefully and then go ahead and download the beat.
May the best emcee win.

Dibia$e – Freefall/Travelin (ft. Scanz)

Real chill yet frenetic instrumental by one of my city’s big shots, Dibia$e that I spotted over at The Word Is Bond. Also included is a track called “Travelin’” featuring an emcee named Scanz. I dare you not to like it. Look out for more production by Dibia$e in the days to come as he is very high in demand.
